With the Rabi sowing window approaching in October-November, the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) have certified two breakthrough wheat cultivars engineered for extreme climate resilience.
Key Highlights of Recommended Cultivars:
- ✔HD-3385: Early-sown, high-biomass variety with potential yield of 75 quintals/hectare. Matures in 140 days and resists yellow rust.
- ✔PBW-826: Highly adaptable variety certified for North-Western Plains Zone (NWPZ), displaying high grain luster and superior chapati quality.
Agronomy Recommendations for Sowing:
- 1Seed Rate: Use 40 kg per acre using Happy Seeder or Super Seeder direct drilling into paddy residue.
- 2Seed Treatment: Treat seeds with Carboxin 37.5% + Thiram 37.5% DS @ 2.5 g/kg seed to prevent loose smut.
- 3Weed Management: Apply Pendimethalin 30% EC within 48 hours of sowing to eliminate Phalaris minor (Gullidanda) infestation.
Always procure certified seeds carrying blue tags from NSC (National Seeds Corporation) or state seed depots.
